Blessings

Posted on January 6th, 2012 in Faith, From the Word by Fred McKinnon

God’s love for us is so amazing.  It’s not dependent on our works or our obedience.  He just loves us.  Period.

What about His blessings?  Perhaps that’s a different topic altogether.  A few days ago I mentioned how obedience can help us dismantle the hardness of heart.

Does obedience also unlock God’s blessings in our lives?

Take a look at this old testament promise that I love so much:

2 And all these blessings shall come upon you and overtake you, if you obey the voice of the Lord your God.
(Deut. 28:2) [emphasis mine]

What do you think?

I think this is absolutely right! Our disobedience ties the hands of the Father and keeps Him from blessing us as He would love to do. After all, He is a covenant God and will not violate His covenant. Consequently, we cannot receive the benefits (blessings) of the covenant if we do not (by faith works) practice obedience to His commandments. Further evidence of this can be seen in the concept of giving tithes and offerings (Malachi 3: 8-11) and, in general terms, in 2 Chronicles 16:9.
