My Worship Recap for St. Simons Community Church
Today marked the first official “Sunday” of the summer season here in the Golden Isles. All of the schools are out and everyone is taking off to the beach and pools. In spite of this, we had a good crowd in both our 9:00 AM and 11:00 AM services today.
We continued on the final week of our 2-week “Celebrate Life” series where we are honoring God, our volunteers, ministries, and sharing testimonies of what God has done through the ministry of SSCC over the last year. Our music reflected this “celebration” theme, as you will see:
Walk In: “Celebration” (Kool and the Gang)
Opener: “Again I Say Rejoice” (Israel Houghton)
*we had trumpet and sax again on these songs and it was awesome having live horns!
Worship Set:
Amazing Grace/My Chains Are Gone (led by Shannon Lewis)
Hosanna (Hillsong) – led by Callie Fendig, returning college student
Sermon:
David’s sermon had multiple live and video testimonies woven throughout showcasing various ministries and celebrations of what God has done at SSCC in the last year.
Closer: “I Will Never Be” (Hillsong)
This song is an older Hillsong ballad that has become somewhat of a “theme” song for our church as “Never be the same again” is a tagline on our logo and marketing materials. It’s also our heartfelt desire – that people would be impacted by Christ and “never be the same again”.
That’s a wrap for us. Now it’s time for you to share. Enter your comment and link below. Be sure your link goes DIRECTLY to your “Sunday Setlists” blog post or worship confessional, and not to your blog’s homepage, please.

Using Mogulus or Video for Worship
Written by Fred McKinnon on July 16, 2008 – 3:01 PM -Hey Everyone,
So today I got a wild idea literally 30 minutes prior to our Wednesday noon “Prayer and Worship” time. I sent a “twitter” message about going to prayer and worship and a friend from our church sent a message back saying she’d be praying with us from her desk at work, but couldn’t make it over to the church.
I got this idea that maybe we should try and make it available online by using Mogulus.com … so I take this wild idea and I call Chris from my cell … it went something like this:
Me: Chris, hey man I’m on the way to the church now to setup for prayer … I got this wild idea about broadcasting the service live on the internet.
Chris: cool … sounds like a good idea.
Me: so, how long would it take us to get the video camera out of the media booth in the main auditorium?
Chris: not long I’ll go get it now.
15 minutes later, I’m there, setting up my keyboard, and Chris and Jim are setting up the camcorder. It’s noon, time to start, and I ask (well … tell, in my bossy kinda way that I don’t mean to be when I’m in the “intense, let’s do this mode”) Chris to login to my Twitter and send the invite. Between my invite and his, we have 9-10 people join us for this experiment.
We didn’t have time to get the sound setup properly, so the audio wasn’t great … but it managed. Best of all, we captured some people, and from the response I got – they were just checking it out – they were engaged in it! So now we’re excited about trying this again, and perhaps even testing it on our Sunday AM services.
So how are you using video streaming technology to make your worship times more accessible to others? Were you one of the dozen or so people who stopped in?

Worship Planning + Web2.0
Written by Fred McKinnon on June 5, 2008 – 3:09 PM -Hey Everyone,
So it’s official. I will be teaching a class this year at the National Worship Leader Conference in Austin, TX. The title: “Worship Planning + Web2.0″.
“From FaceBook to Twitter, Blogging, Social Networking, and Online Communities … how can the web enhance your ability to plan and create great worship encounters for your congregations.”
I’ll start writing the syllabus soon – but I need to hear from you ALL … how has the web, and more specifically, the 2.0 web helped you as a Worship Leader, Musician, or Tech?
1. Leave a comment and share your story.
2. Blog about it, email it, and share it on your links … I need HUGE PARTICIPATION here.
3. COME to the class if you’re attending the NWLC!
Let the stories begin.
