How Can You Help Honduras?

Written by Fred McKinnon on May 5, 2009 – 3:39 PM -

Hey Everybody,

OK, confession time.  I’ve come to a spot now where I get more “would you please promote or mention this on your blog and websites” requests than I can manage.  I’m not sure why this little patch of green on the internet is an attractive place to promote things …. WAIT …

I am sure why … because of  YOU.
The folks who read this blog ….

The folks who follow me on Twitter…

For the most part, I have to decline these favors but not this time.  I’m privileged to tell you about an incredible missions opportunity that my buddy Russ Hutto and his wife, Lydia are a part of.  It’s a missions trip to Honduras.

I’ll save you the time of reading a bunch of text – and just tell you:

  1. You can help by praying for their team
  2. You can help by sacrificing a couple of coffees, a $10 hamburger, or some luxury that you could do without for a day.

That’s right – I’m asking that you consider blessing them financially to make this trip happen.

Why would I ask such a radical thing?  Besides the fact that Russ is a friend, fellow worship leader, and has been an incredible, faithful VOLUNTEER for the Kingdom of God on ventures I’ve done like TheWorshipCommunity.Com …. (isn’t that enough?) …

……..      it’s just what WE, THE CHURCH, DO.

And thanks to the power of the internet, THE CHURCH can rally and support one another like never before.

Click over for the details, and make your donation.

If everyone who reads this blog donated $5-15 or more … their expenses would be paid in full, and we celebrate the victory of making a difference in Honduras.  I’m on my way to make my donation RIGHT NOW.

Freddy Rodriguez ReVue

Written by Fred McKinnon on February 11, 2009 – 8:25 AM -

fr_masthead3One of the coolest things that has been happening over at TheWorshipCommunity.Com is the “ReVue” series … where instead of having one person (often, the same person) do a review of new worship resources, we get multiple reviews on the same resource.

We call this the “ReVue” and we just published a “ReVue” on a brand new album released by Integrity Music called “Light in the Darkness” from Champions Center in Las Vegas, NV.

Led by worship leader Freddy Rodriguez, this album has a unique blend of styles, grooves, and songs.  The album was reviewed by Erika Michelle, Chris Vacher, Joel Klampert, and Russ Hutto.

Checkout the full “ReVue” over at TheWorshipCommunity.Com!

FreePlay Friday (Poop, Music, Travel, Spam)

Written by Fred McKinnon on July 18, 2008 – 9:26 AM -

(RSS Readers – please consider clicking over to the blog and participating in FreePlay Friday Today!)

IT’s FRI———DAAAAAAYYYYYYYYYY!
(that would be, “It’s Friday”).

Welcome to FreePlay Friday, where I open it up and talk about most whatever I want on this blog, and encourage YOU to do the same thing. OK, well, within some boundaries. Typically, I’m trying (keyword=trying) to keep the blog on-topic the rest of the week, focusing on worship, worship leading, music, leadership, and faith.

Speaking of “FreePlay Friday” – I need some kind of super-cool graphic for this. Anybody out there feeling charitable? I am a graphic nobody .. I can’t draw a recognizable stick-person. I’m envious of you peeps out there (like Russ, Chris, Joel, Alex, Rich, Mandy for instance) who can conjure up cool graphics and banners for your series. So if anybody wants to be GREAT in the Kingdom (something about being a servant, right?) … sport me a graphic, and I’ll tout your praises to all my readers. (oooh, wow).

OK – let’s jump in. Here’s my FreePlay Friday thoughts and recollections from this week:

1. We were watching 101 Dalmations a couple of nights ago … and Jon Michael, my 7-yr old (almost 8-yrs old) year is amazed at the cruelty and pure meanness of Cruella Deville. In his mastered use of the English language and deep reasoning at 7 years old, he thinks he’s figured out why she’s so crabby and mean. He says “I think she doesn’t know the difference between POOP and APPLESAUCE”, so when she thinks she’s eating her APPLESAUCE, she’s probably really eating POOP, and that’s why she’s so mean.”

Yep. That one came out of nowhere.

2. So Joy was driving the kids home yesterday … Jon Michael (above) and Will (6) were in the backseat of our van. As they passed the cemetery off Hwy 341 in Brunswick, Jon Michael declares “that’s where all the dead people are”. Well, there are two parts to that cemetery separated by a street, and as they crossed over and could see the second part of the cemetery, Jon Michael says “wow, there are A LOT of dead people”.

So Will … (if you know Will, this is CLASSIC WILL) says in his bold little 6-year old voice, somewhat exasperated with Jon Michael’s fascination … “JON MICHAEL, OF COURSE THERE ARE LOTS OF DEAD PEOPLE”. A brief pause … and Will begins to qualify this statement with a list, beginning with … “the CAVEMEN …. ” HAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHA

3. I brought home some leftover subs from rehearsal last night. I stacked them on a plate and attempted to cover them with generic brand Saran Wrap. As usual, it didn’t work, it didn’t stick. I wanted to cuss. Right Tam?

4. I’m listening to Martha Munizzi (web | iTunes) … listen, has ANYONE told his gal that she’s WHITE? To all my white (Caucasian), honky friends (can I say that?) … do yourself a listen to Martha. She is amazing. She rocks. If all you play is pulsing bass note, 1-minor 6, 4-5 songs over and over, a few different ways (ie. Hilllsongs, Passion) with dueling, u2 electric guitars … BREAK OUT OF YOUR FREAKIN’ BOX. Talk about “gimme some groove”.

5. I’m leaving next week to attend the National Worship Leader Conference in Austin, TX. Will be attending and teaching “Worship + Web2.0″ class. Russ Hutto is flying out and rooming with me … he’s my travel buddy and Chaperone. (uh oh)

6. I called AT&T this morning and canceled the RingMaster # that I’ve used as my fax number at the home office. THE FAX SPAMMERS WIN. I CANCELED THE NUMBER AND UNPLUGGED THE FAX. I HATE SPAM.

Ok, so now it’s time for you to have some fun. Feel free to comment on anything that I mentioned today that you “relate to” … but, also … please comment and just leave some RANDOM ANYTHING to make us smile, pray, or connect to you!

Go for it.

Weekend Recap: Gainesville, Browns Bridge

Written by Fred McKinnon on April 27, 2008 – 10:45 PM -

Hey Everyone,

Phew, it’s good to be home. We took a trip up to Gainesville, GA to visit Joy’s parents and celebrate her Dad’s 81st birthday. We had a blast, but it was so good to finally get home about 9:30 tonight. When we piled out of the van, the breeze was coming in cool off the marsh, the air was salty and beachy, and the stars were shining bright. There is NO PLACE like home.

So in my absence, Shannon led worship at SSCC. I talked to Travis (our Tech Director) and Shannon, all who said the services were very good. Seems like our drummer’s IEM battery died in the first song, and that was a little crazy, but other than that – I think it went off fairly well. It’s a huge blessing to know that God has raised up some great leadership in our church. I was able to enjoy a weekend away without worrying about how things would go.

So this morning, I got up and decided to visit North Point’s “Browns Bridge Community Church” in Cumming, GA. I’d thought about driving down to see Vicky Beeching lead worship at Buckhead Church, and possibly get a quick “hello” to Carlos, but Buckhead was a bit too far to drive and get back in time for Nanna’s famous pot roast and one last birthday meal for Grandad!

So I must say, very impressed with Browns Bridge. Thanks to Shae (she was producing) for hooking me up with the audio guy who gave me directions to the best seats in the house. I got to see Tyler and his gorgeous new kiddo as well. Had hoped to hookup with Elliott, but he wasn’t around when I was hanging out at the FOH area.

It was my first encounter with a “video campus”. I gotta tell ya … I was blown away by this technology. It wasn’t Andy Stanley on the screen, it was the campus pastor from Buckhead Church, Jeff Henderson. The sermon was great and the technology was incredible. I really thought that it would look real, but it would become “fake” the more I looked at it. Actually, just the opposite was true – the more I watched, the more real it became.

So, I took these two pics w/ my Treo phone … must’ve looked like some nutty tourist or something snapping photos, but when you are constantly in “I might blog about this” mode, you get where you don’t care.

First, the view from the back row of the balcony:

Second, the sermon video of Jeff Henderson … kinda hard to tell how it looked, but there was a set behind him in the video of a smaller wall with a picture on it. Dude, doesn’t that look real?

So this is a packed week coming up. Gonna hang out some tomorrow w/ Russ Hutto here on SSI, and we’ll be hosting Bebo Norman this weekend in our facility for a concert.

So, at 11:42 PM and after nearly 7+ hours in the car today, I think it’s time to get some sleep!

How was your weekend?
