My Worship Recap for St. Simons Community Church
Today was one of those days where I intentionally scheduled myself OFF the stage. Turns out it was a good thing because I’m feeling pretty crappy right now – sinus, pollen, cold – just wiped out, and so ready to go to sleep. Read more »

Worship Confessional – Sunday April 19 2009
WOW – what a long day. Thanks to those who were patient enough to wait for this to post … I had important things to do right after church, like – take a 2+ hour nap. Then, took the kids to the swimming pool at the gym – I needed to do some butt-kicking in Daddy-Kids pool dunking and wrestling. I’m not sure I won. Anyway, we’ve got most of the kids down and I’m finally getting my 4th attempt at a worship confessional video uploaded.
(photos by Chris Moncus – click photos for full size)
There was a plethora of ISSUES today in our 9:00 service. Forgotten lyrics, video miscues, battery failures, and more. When it’s all said and done, God was God, He was big, He was awesome, and we worshiped! Watch the embedded video below for all the gory details – today’s video confessional is way long, but has some clips from our worship service – so take a break for 10 minutes and tune in!
Today was exciting because I was able to introduce some new instrumentation – one of my favorite instruments on the planet … the hammered dulcimer. You can hear it on the video but it was a blast playing this awesome instrument.
It was also a huge privilege to have Lydia Nichols joining us with her cello. Lydia is a high school student who is an amazing cellist and classical pianist as well.
Walk In: You Never Let Go (Redman) – Key of A
Opening Song: Hosanna (Baloche) – Key of G
Second Set:
Revelation Song (Kari Jobe/Gateway) – Key of C
Holy, Holy, Holy (Trad. Hymn) – Key of C – D
Special Music:
“Rescue Me” (Wynonna Judd, from “Songs of Deliverance” Compilation CD)
Lydia did an incredible job and I really enjoyed my “debut” on the hammered dulcimer. We had some great help from our tech guys in micing these instruments with the correct mics. Maybe Travis can blog about it later this week, as the original worship confessional video we shot this morning is sans audio.
Jay Sellers was the hero today – he “rescued me” from my dead battery situation. Below are more pics from the service – thanks to Chris for the photos and videos.
VIDEO WORSHIP CONFESSIONAL – INCLUDES CLIP OF “RESCUE ME” and OUR “COLDPLAY” FINALE!
(finally – after 4 takes, 3 upload attempts, and multiple issues – this confessional and clip is live)

Sunday Setlists #37 – Palm Sunday Experience
Written by Fred McKinnon on April 5, 2009 – 7:55 AM -
Hello Everyone! It’s Palm Sunday!
“Sunday Setlists” is a blog carnival started here at FredMcKinnon.Com, now in it’s 37th consecutive week. It’s a way for others to share and network on what happened in their worship services. To participate, please follow these simple rules:
- Blog about your worship service. (It doesn’t have to happen on Sunday, btw). If you don’t blog, just share your recap in the comments box below.
- In your blog, be sure and link back here so the people who read your blog can come and discover all of the other setlists. You will want to mention that you are participating in the “Sunday Setlists” carnival at FredMcKinnon.com and link to this URL:
http://www.fredmckinnon.com/myblog/2009/04/05/sunday-setlists-37/ - Leave the URL to your blog post in the Mister Linky box below.

Sunday Setlists for
St. Simons Community Church, April 5 2009
Guess what? I’m not @sscc today. I’m not leading today. I’ll be attending Free Chapel in Gainesville, GA. Shannon Lewis is leading worship back home today, so I’ll let him post our “Sunday Setlists” post.
So it’s your turn – be sure to put the URL to your actual blog POST, and not your blog’s homepage. If you just post the blog’s homepage URL, your link will be deleted, because that doesn’t link to your Sunday Setlists post. So pretty please … the full URL to your post.

Sunday Setlists for St. Simons Community Church
March 29, 2009
Great day of worship @SSCC.
Walk-in: Glorious One (Fee)
(we drop this down to C for singability)
Opening Song: See His Love (Hughes) – Bm
Announcements: normal church announcements, and a great update from one of our missionaries in Haiti.
Second Set:
Jesus Messiah (E)
Hosanna (Hillsong) (E)
*this was a great medley. We come out of Jesus Messiah and end it in E, and as the song fades down, we go into a vocal only chorus of Hosanna. It’s an awesome way to sing that Chorus and hear all the people in the congregation singing. No band drowning them out. Pull out your in-ears. Listen to the most glorious sound ever – YOUR PEOPLE SINGING. After singing through the Chorus, we end on that C#m and the band kicks in w/ the normal arrangement from the Hillsong album.
Special Song:
Psalm 13 (Brian Doerksen)
We did this lament last week, and it was requested that we do this as a special again this week, continuing our series on Job. It was powerful, like last week. (see last week’s setlist to listen to it).
Closer:
It is Well With My Soul (traditional)
Great day. Harriet (the original, founding Worship Leader here at SSCC) and myself were the main leaders.
Fred McKinnon: Keys/Vocals/Leader
Harriet Jones: Acoustic Guitar/Vocals/Leader
Kim Meadows: Vocals
Larry Wade: Vocals
Jay Sellers: Vocals/Electric Guitar
Gary Share: Bass (loved the fretless on the lament!)
Rick Joyce: Drums
Your turn! Put the link to YOUR “Sunday Setlists” post in the Mister Linky below. Remember, put the full URL to your actual post, and not the URL to your blog’s homepage. Homepage links (ie. yourblog.wordpress.com, yourblog.blogspot.com, yourdomain.com) will be deleted. The URL should go directly to your blog entry only.

On Suffering
Written by Fred McKinnon on March 26, 2009 – 8:41 AM -
We are about 4 weeks into our series on the book of Job entitled “When It Hurts” at SSCC. (you can listen to the series thus far here)
I was both excited about this series and dreading it at the same time. I struggle with the God who allowed those things to happen to Job. I also have strong issues with how much liberty we give “suffering” in the church, almost to the point where it’s “just sit back and take it, there is nothing you can do about it” attitude.
So, I’m on a mission. It’s too easy to just believe what you always heard. It’s so easy to interpret Scripture through the filter of the people who taught it to you. Everyone has a slant. That slant comes through in how we use the Bible to teach our agenda.
My Quest:
To study and refine my own doctrine and theology of suffering.
Do I believe that Christians will suffer in this world? 100% yes, absolutely.
Do I believe that we often lump things in to “Godly suffering” that don’t belong there? 100% yes, absolutely.
So, I’ll be taking my Bible and keeping extensive notes in Evernote … and maybe one day I’ll be able to come back and share my thoughts.
Can you clearly articulate your doctrine in regards to suffering?
