Monday Muse: Do You FriendFeed? #mondaymuse

Written by Fred McKinnon on July 6, 2009 – 9:52 AM -

friendfeedlogoSo here’s my “Monday Muse” question for us all today.

“FriendFeed” - do you have it?  Do you use it?

I stumbled upon this site a while back and created a profile but only started using it last week.  I was getting dozens of “____ has subscribed to your friendfeed” emails and wasn’t sure what that meant or why.

Basically, “FriendFeed” allows you to aggragate your online activity into one, continuous stream.  For me, that’s more than a stream, that’s whitewater rapids!  (and all my local buddies who see me at church and say “man, you twitter WAY too much” sound out a hearty AMEN)

Thanks to my buddy Scott who sent me these tips for getting started and using FriendFeed.  In addition, I’ve discovered that it can be quite Read more »

Monday Muse: What’s Your Twitter Follow Strategy?

Written by Fred McKinnon on June 29, 2009 – 8:22 AM -

twitter_follow_me_xHey Gang,

Today’s “Monday Muse” has to do with “Twitter”.  At this point, I don’t feel like I need to explain what Twitter.Com is all about – you’ve already heard it everywhere.  (By the way, if you aren’t following my tweets, now is a good time to start!  @fmckinnon from me, @theworshipcomm for TheWorshipCommunity.Com and @ebusinessonline for the E-BusinessOnline.Com forum)

My question is this:

“What is your Twitter Follow Strategy”?

Do you follow everyone who follows you?
Do you only follow a select few people?
If you don’t follow everyone, how do you determine who you DO follow?

I’ve been on the “auto-follow” everyone but I have to confess, I’m seriously reconsidering this strategy.  Although I’ve found some cool people in my timeline talking about worship and leadership, I’ve also found “followers” who had obsene profiles, pornographic material, and other junk that I could care less about.  Not to mention I don’t like getting their “thanks for following me, check my site for the best deals on mortgage loans” direct messages.

So, what’s your strategy?

A Day of Mentoring with Randy Elrod @recreate

Written by Fred McKinnon on April 22, 2009 – 8:16 AM -

Hey Ya’ll,

- Many of you know him on Twitter as @recreate
- Many of you know him as the guy who hosts the “re:create” conference in TN
- Many of you know him as the guy who does the “Lifework 2.0” seminars.
- Many of you know him as an author, an artist, an entrepreneur, a mountain climber, a husband, dad, worship guy.
- Many of you know him as the guy who called out Perry Noble last week.  (haha)|
- Many of you know him as a mentor and life coach.
- Everyone knows him as the best customer at Merridee’s in Franklin, TN..

Well …

I know him as an inspiring man, full of passion for Christ and His Kingdom, a man whose eyes sparkle with vision and hope, and best of all, a man who has seemingly undressed himself of the layers of religiosity and legalism that so often cover a person who has been involved in ministry for decades.

This man is Randy Elrod.

I met Randy for the first time at re:create this year.  It was one of those moments where you feel an instant bond, a spiritual connection.  I could “so relate” to this man. I remember pulling Randy aside and saying “Randy, I’d love to spend some time with you.  I don’t need to confess some deep, secret sins, though I know it would be safe to do so.  I’ve just got this constant battle of ministry, life, and entrepreneur blood going on and I can’t make it stop, and I know I’ll never be successful without getting some outside help and focus”.  Half way through my sentence, Randy’s eyes got big, a few more sparkles started flashing in them, and his head began to nod with am emphatic “yes – yes, I can help you, I know what you are feeling”.

So, what do you do when a man who knows everybody, and that everybody knows, offers a day of mentoring?  You book it fast.  You do what it takes to make it happen.

TODAY IS MY DAY.  Pray for us.  Pray for me.

FreePlay Friday – Twitter, Giveaways, Weekend

Written by Fred McKinnon on March 27, 2009 – 8:27 AM -

Fred McKinnon's FreePlay Friday Logo

Hey Everyone -

Can you say “It’s Friday”!?????   Woo-Hoo!  FreePlay Friday is a fun day for me and you – we talk about whatever we want here on Friday, and break the routine of discussions on faith, church, worship, worship leadership, music, etc.

The last few days of this week have been me sneezing, itching, coughing, dripping, blowing (ok, I’ll stop).  Spring time and pollen counts seem higher than ever before.  The normal cocktail of allergy meds for me aren’t doing it this week.  NyQuil was my friend last night.

Here Goes the Randomness

  • I can hardly type, I’m bobbing my head so hard … side-to-side … rock … back and forth … that’s because I’m listening to the brand new Israel Houghton CD, “The Power of One“.  Holy smokes.  Groove galore.
  • Rebekah’s birthday is this weekend.  Family coming to town, “Marriage Live Beach Bash” tonight at church, soccer games in the AM on Jekyll Island, and then Bekah’s birthday party.  Hope it doesn’t rain.
  • Twitter … it’s definitely here to stay for a while folks.  I’m taking over social media and networking “officially” for our church . We already have a twitter account for the church @sscc … but just got a new one going for our missions team in Kenya @sscckenya.  Way cool, they are sending live twitter updates “from the field” in Kenya.
  • FREE GIVEAWAY:
March is almost over, which means it’s time to have the monthly FREE GIVEAWAY drawing over at HighestPraise.Com.  This month’s freebie is Lincoln Brewster’s “Today is the Day” CD and WorshipToolBox resource (DVD with instructional videos, chord charts, lyrics, sheet music, etc).  All you have to do is signup for the E-News from HighestPraise.Com.  You can expect maybe 3-5 emails per month, usually announcements about worship-related resources and new songs from HPP and some of our friends.

Wassup for your weekend?  Back to the Twitter thing … do you use it?  Does your church?  How is your church, ministry, or business using Twitter or other social media?

BRING IT ON.

This was too good not to share.  My co-worker says this is me.  I know that he secretly wishes he was a blogfather and master tweeter.  (hahahaha)
