Happy Mother’s Day!

As we celebrate the 42nd consecutive week of “Sunday Setlists”, let’s remember our Mothers.  Thank God for Moms, right?  I gotta say how proud I am of my wife,  Joy.  Not only is she an incredible wife and mom … she’s bad to da bone – and completed her first ever triathlon this morning.  What a way to spend Mother’s Day – hitting the water at 7:20 AM for a triathlon.  I was “Mr. Mom” for the weekend and kept our 4 kids.  It’s been a blast.

Worship Setlist for St. Simons Community Church, 5/10/09

Wow, what an incredible time of worship today.  He brought in a new guitarist who recently got saved.  He did a great job and it was awesome seeing our regular bass player out there on the 2nd row with his wife and family worshiping Jesus.

Today I could really hear the people singing.  I think it had a lot to do with the arrangements and the song selections.  It’s one of the most beautiful sounds ever – hearing your people sing to God.

Walk-In Song:  “Revival” (From Revival in Belfast)

Opening Song:  “Let Everything That Has Breath”

Second Set:
“Everlasting God”
“Revelation Song”  (started in C, and did a cool modulation to D coming out of the 3rd verse, very powerful)

Sermon:
Heroes – Part 1 (honoring our parents and moms, specifically)

Communion Set:
“This is the Gift of God” (Carl Cartee)
“O The Blood/Nothing But the Blood of Jesus Medley” (old-school, simple medley)
“Mighty Is The Power of the Cross”

It was a great time at SSCC.  There was a very upbeat feeling in the room today.

Just before the sermon we played “The Mom Song” on the big screens … if you haven’t see this yet, it’s worth the watch:

There you have it – it’s your turn now.  Be sure to enter the actual, full URL to your blog post, and not your blog’s homepage.  Homepage links will be deleted.

Worship Confessional – Sunday April 19 2009

WOW – what a long day.  Thanks to those who were patient enough to wait for this to post … I had important things to do right after church, like – take a 2+ hour nap.  Then, took the kids to the swimming pool at the gym – I needed to do some butt-kicking in Daddy-Kids pool dunking and wrestling.  I’m not sure I won.  Anyway, we’ve got most of the kids down and I’m finally getting my 4th attempt at a worship confessional video uploaded.

(photos by Chris Moncus – click photos for full size)

fred-playingThere was a plethora of ISSUES today in our 9:00 service. Forgotten lyrics, video miscues, battery failures, and more.  When it’s all said and done, God was God, He was big, He was awesome, and we worshiped!  Watch the embedded video below for all the gory details – today’s video confessional is way long, but has some clips from our worship service – so take a break for 10 minutes and tune in!

Today was exciting because I was able to introduce some new instrumentation – one of my favorite instruments on the planet … the hammered dulcimer.  You can hear it on the video but it was a blast playing this awesome instrument.

It was also a huge privilege to have Lydia Nichols joining us with her cello.  Lydia is a high school student who is an amazing cellist and classical pianist as well.

lyldia-playingHere’s the Setlist:

Walk In:  You Never Let Go (Redman) – Key of A

Opening Song:  Hosanna (Baloche) – Key of G

Second Set:
Revelation Song (Kari Jobe/Gateway) – Key of C
Holy, Holy, Holy (Trad. Hymn) – Key of C – D

Special Music:
“Rescue Me” (Wynonna Judd, from “Songs of Deliverance” Compilation CD)

Lydia did an incredible job and I really enjoyed my “debut” on the hammered dulcimer.  We had some great help from our tech guys in micing these instruments with the correct mics.  Maybe Travis can blog about it later this week, as the original worship confessional video we shot this morning is sans audio.

Jay Sellers was the hero today – he “rescued me” from my dead battery situation.  Below are more pics from the service – thanks to Chris for the photos and videos.

sunday_setlist_2

Hello Everyone!  It’s Palm Sunday!

“Sunday Setlists” is a blog carnival started here at FredMcKinnon.Com, now in it’s 37th consecutive week.  It’s a way for others to share and network on what happened in their worship services.  You do NOT have to be a worship leader or pastor to participate – anyone is welcome to blog or comment a recap of their worship service.

To participate, please follow these simple rules:

  1. Blog about your worship service.  (It doesn’t have to happen on Sunday, btw).  If you don’t blog, just share your recap in the comments box below.
  2. In your blog, be sure and link back here so the people who read your blog can come and discover all of the other setlists.  You will want to mention that you are participating in the “Sunday Setlists” carnival at FredMcKinnon.com and link to this URL:
    http://www.fredmckinnon.com/myblog/2009/04/05/sunday-setlists-37/

Sunday Setlists for
St. Simons Community Church, April 5 2009

Guess what?  I’m not @sscc today.  I’m not leading today.  I’ll be attending Free Chapel in Gainesville, GA.  Shannon Lewis is leading worship back home today, so I’ll let him post our “Sunday Setlists” post.

So it’s your turn – be sure to put the URL to your actual blog POST, and not your blog’s homepage.  If you just post the blog’s homepage URL, your link will be deleted, because that doesn’t link to your Sunday Setlists post.  So pretty please … the full URL to your post.

My Setlist Review for St. Simons Community Church
Sunday, March 1 2009

Walk-In:  Happy Day
Opening Set:
Blessed Be Your Name
See His Love

Sermon:  Job (part 1 of a 6-week series on Job)

Closing Ministry/Worship:
Blessed Assurance
With All I Am
You Have Made Me Glad

As I mentioned, we started our 6-week series on the book of Job today.  You can view more on the series and hear the messages on the SSCC Site.  (I usually have those sermons posted by Tuesday AM)  Our final set today was more intimate.  We allowed people to come pray, worship, or even VENT to God … we’re focusing on Job, and not so much the question of “why does God allow suffering”, but “is He worth it, and will I still praise Him”.  We did a more acoustic set, I played piano, Kim Dixon played acoustic guitar/vocals, one tenor vocal (Brent), fretless bass (Gary) and RV on congas/djembe … so it was cool to have the laid back groove in the last set.

It was  great day – we didn’t have the huge praise and celebration we saw last week, but the book of Job doesn’t necessarily invite that, does it?  What we did have is altars full of people praying, dedicating, venting, and surrendering … that was worth it all!

That’s it for me .. now it’s time for you to share!

After posting your blog (be sure and link back to today’s post here in your blog) please fill our the Mister Linky below.  Be sure that the URL you enter goes directly to your actual blog entry for your Sunday Setlists page, and NOT your blog’s homepage.  Homepage links will be removed.

Comments: (I turned off IntenseDebate, so if you’d like to be notified via email when someone replies to your comment, check the subscribe to comments box below).
