**** Sunday Setlists for St. Simons Community Church, Dec 14, 2008 ******

Sermon Intro Video:

Constructing Christmas Intro Video from SSCC on Vimeo.

Today was my LAST SUNDAY leading worship at SSCC this year.  Next Sunday I’ll be part of our “Jingle Jam” performance of “Charlie Brown Christmas”, so I’ll be back in the Kid’s Clubhouse Theater the whole time.

Pre-Service Jam:
“Go Tell It On the Mountain” – I worked up a light jazz arrangement of this tune, and the rhythm section did an awesome job learning it as the last minute … we were swinging away, enjoying playing this song before our walk-in.  We started this at :10 till service time.

Walk In Song:
“Silent Night” – Mercy Me version.  Gary, our bassist switched to mandolin to start this song out and it was very cool to have that.

Opening Set:
“No Other Name” (Todd Fields, Northpoint Live version)
“Hark the Herald Angels Sing” (Traditional Version, added my “Doxology” verse)

Second Set:
“O Holy Night” – this was a special, with Amy, one of our new singers.  I just played it traditional-style from the grand piano while Amy sang.  Elizabeth came in on the second time through with the strings and it made it sound even better!  There was a short silence afterwards, then great applause for this Christmas favorite.

“WIth All I Am” – Hilllsong Version

Sermon:
Constructing Christmas, Part 2 – Pastor David Yarborough led us through the Old Testament with numerous examples of how God was constructing and planning the birth of Christ from the fall of man.

Closer:
“You Are My King” (Amazing Love)

It was a great day, and I felt good about both services.  We made several transitional changes in between our 9:00 and 11:00 services that helped the flow.

Your Turn!

  10. windbag says:

    I returned to the Sunday Setlists after a few weeks off. The other worship leader led a couple of weeks and I had a very bad couple of weeks. It ended up being a misunderstanding, which has since been resolved, but I actually threw in the towel two weeks ago and resigned completely from the worship team. In short, I’m back. This morning was incredible worship. The team is graceful, and we flowed like a team in a way we haven’t in awhile.

  19. Well, I would have been first but believe it or not, our power went out. Ugh!
    I failed to mention our worship leader who has been on EVERY Sunday since June, finally got a well deserved Sunday off. She produced today instead.

  23. Now that I’ve listened to the Mercy Me version, my comment is rubbish. I thought it would be a quiet one with the mandolin being picked. Sigh…that would have been wonderful.

  24. Bobby Gilles says:

    Charlie Brown Christmas? Make sure you instruct the singers to follow the lead of the television show, in craning their necks back and looking straight up into the air while singing.

    I’ve actually tried it — doesn’t do much for tone. But those Peanuts kids made it work for them. 🙂

  25. Fred says:

    Bobby,
    The best part is timing the breathing so that pig pen’s dust bombs don’t get inhaled on those big, deep breaths. MERRY CHRISTMAS, CHARLIE BROWN

  26. Fred says:

    @louise – you sound like one of our other worship leaders, she things Silent Night can ONLY be done as a lullaby.

    @johnny – Amazing Love (You Are My King) has been a “reservoir” song for us for some time … .it’s always effective.

    @windbag, glad you’re back
    @dawn – i LOVE it when people who are actually IN our services come to Sunday Setlists and comment .. thanks!

    @billy – praying for you
    @David, I used Mandolin w/ a bit of Hi-Hat during the 1st verse, then added bass, drums (brushes), bass, and acoustic guitar and acoustic piano on the 2nd part, and then dropped back out to only HH and mandolin on the 3rd verse. Pretty much covered it just like the MercyMe.

  27. Russ says:
