My Worship Confessional for SSCC
Wow, what an incredible weekend. Today was perhaps one of the most intense days of my 2-1/2 years of ministry at SSCC because not only did I lead worship in both services, I taught in both services too. Today was “Compassion Sunday” for us and I had the privilege of teaching in our main services about the ministry of Compassion International. My goal was that at least 100 children would be sponsored from today’s presentation. I don’t have any tally on that this afternoon but I know that well over 100 packages went home with folks! Now, I pray that the packets will return with sponsorship information.
Typically I choose to not be the primary worship leader when I’m teaching in a service but I didn’t have that luxury this week as all of our normal worship leaders were “blocked out” for this Sunday in PlanningCenterOnline. I was also notified about 1/2 way through our sound check this morning that our electric guitar player was sick and wouldn’t make it. We missed him, but the mix and music sounded great regardless.
I’m worn out, just finished an intense nap, and have some dear friends arriving in about an hour so my wife and I can enjoy a Sunday evening date. Can’t wait.
One of the ways we worshiped today was by bringing food and grocery gifts to stock a food pantry ministry at another church on the mainland. As I watched people bringing stacks and stacks of groceries up to the altar and I thought of how they sacrificed this week to be able to purchase extra food for this ministry, I realized this was a profound act of worship.
As for the musical selections – it was a shorter list this week since both Pastor David Yarborough and myself did teaching.
Walk In:
“Glorious One” (Fee)
Opening Song:
“Everything That has Breath” (oldie but a goodie!)
Transition to 2nd Set:
After some brief welcome, I transitioned from the fast song into the slower set of worship music by talking about how our bringing the food and groceries for the poor was just as much a part of our worship as singing and playing music. I think people connected with that idea.
Worship:
Doxology (I’m loving the arrangement on the Don Poythress CD from Integrity)
How Great is our God
Sermon: Go, Part 3
Pastor David shared about “living” a sermon, and not just hearing one … how we’re called to “Go”. I gave a presentation on Compassion International.
Closing Song:
If You Say Go (Vineyard)
